2023 Project78 – brand origination
Approached by Linux Belgium, I was tasked with creating the brand identity for their new cloud-based upgrade platform (UaaS). The tool enables something almost unheard of in the server world — upgrading RHEL 7 or CentOS 7 to RHEL 8 or Rocky Linux 8 in just 25 minutes, with a single command, no reinstallation, and no data loss. 95% of servers simply restart and run as before — only with a modern OS.
The internal code name was Project78, symbolising the move from 7 to 8. I built the identity around that transition — designing a bold, resilient logo where the “78” becomes both a name and a visual metaphor for seamless transformation. The design focuses on clarity and robustness, reflecting the tool’s promise: complex upgrades, simplified.

At that time, I started experimenting with GenAI, more specifically with MidJourney. I believe it is a great tool to try out visual styles rapidly and see some direct results of what you want to achieve. Because the whole theme was about upgrading Linux and Red Hat servers I prompted something about the mass migration of penguins. The result would inspire the brand colors and visual style/illustration.

In addition to the brand identity, I designed the user interface for both versions of the platform—Project78 Cloud and Project78 OnPrem. My focus was on creating a clear, confident visual system that makes complex upgrades easy to understand and manage.
For the cloud platform, I translated the idea of “upgrade with one command” into a streamlined, minimal interface—prioritizing clarity, hierarchy, and ease of navigation. For the OnPrem version, the UI was adapted to support deeper control and customization, while keeping the same visual logic and design language. The challenge was to make a technical process feel intuitive and trustworthy—without losing its robustness.
